About Gal Hecht
Gal Hecht is a 29-year-old jazz pianist, keyboardist, composer, and educator from Rehovot. His music is creative, innovative, and deeply engaging, drawing inspiration from artists such as Bill Evans, Fred Hersch, Kenny Barron, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Hiromi Uehara, and more.
Gal began studying piano at the age of five, initially focusing on classical music before transitioning to jazz. He graduated from De-Shalit High School in Rehovot with a major in music, where he performed a jazz recital. Alongside his piano studies, he also played the trumpet for four years at the Rehovot Conservatory.
He continued his musical education at the New School Special Jazz Program at the Tel Aviv Conservatory of Israel. During this time, he led "Nu Ma," a funk-fusion jazz ensemble that performed across Israel at various venues, clubs, and festivals. One notable performance was at The Shablulim Festival, a well-known indie music festival. The band is currently in the process of producing its first album. In addition to his work with Nu Ma, Gal is an active session musician, collaborating with emerging Israeli artists.
As an educator, Gal has taught at Yamaha Music School in Tel Aviv, Basher Music in the Shfela region, and is currently a faculty member at Encore Music Program at SCC in Brooklyn.
He recently graduated from The New School’s Jazz Program in New York, where he studied under esteemed musicians such as Aaron Goldberg, Jimmy Owens, Valery Ponomarev, Anat Cohen, and Sam Yahel. His passion, curiosity, and dedication to music continue to shape his journey, ensuring a promising and impactful career ahead.
